There’s nothing better than combining business with pleasure. I did just that recently when I went to visit family in Istanbul, my native land of Turkey, before exhibiting at the 2nd International Biennial of Arts in the beautiful city of Izmir. One of the definite highlights was seeing how Turkish artists could pull off such a fantastic contemporary art show despite all the political and economic difficulties they have to work under. It was impressive.
I loved every moment of the exhibition – not to mention all the great networking with so many talented artists (450 exhibitors from 55 countries, apparently!). My certified organic textile installation of 10 panels ‘Echoes from Yurt’ attracted plenty of attention and positive response. For more details of the Biennial, check out the following blog written by a Hungarian art critic (the article features photos of my pieces!): http://www.cornucopia.net/blog/2nd-international-izmir-biennial-of-arts/ In some other exciting news, I’ll be exhibiting at an upcoming design show in July at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. As an emerging artist, designer and eco-fashion label, I’m delighted to be joining the talented pool of innovative design thought leaders at the event. I’m currently busy preparing a series of certified organic rugs and blankets for the show based on the theme ‘Spirit of the Bush’. It’ll be a great opportunity to showcase my work along with other bespoke designers from across Australia. It’s particularly timely to be showcasing my work to the interior design market as sustainable, Australian-made ethical and organic products are starting to gain far more support, finally!
